Southern Illinois' first solar-powered goat dairy and botanical farm.

Thirty acres in Southernmost Illinois. Lois runs the farm. The herd runs the milkings. The chickens provide the entertainment (and the best eggs you have ever tried). Welcome to the farm.
OUR FOUNDER

Lois has lived and farmed in Southern Illinois her whole life.

Before settling on this land Lois farmed in Johnson County her whole life. She raised her son Joshua on this farm. She knows where the deer cross. She knows which corner of the pasture holds water in a wet spring. She knows the herd by name, and the herd knows her voice.

Lois has been farming since before Joshua was born.
HERITAGE

Four generations of knowing what works.

Lois learned soap-making from her grandmother, Della. Della worked from a different kitchen on different land, but the lessons traveled. Joshua took those lessons and built The Gilded Goat around them. Cory runs production and animal care with a biology and chemistry background that pairs well with great-grandma Della's wisdom.

Four generations of knowing what works, applied to a farm that runs on sunshine. Take your time. Measure honestly. Put care in. People feel it later.

Bone + Bear Farms

We freeze-dry ourown goat milk. We gather and pack every carton of eggsby hand.We run the whole farm on sunshine.

THE LAND

Thirty acres, run on sunshine.

We're just outside of Big Bay, less than five miles off I-24 at the Big Bay Exit. The solar array powers the milking parlor, the freeze-dryer, the freezers, the office, and the kitchen. We only produce enough solar to farm. We're where Southern Illinois quiets down.

FrequentlyAsked Questions

Q. Can we visit the farm?

Not yet. We're working toward opening to visitors but Bone + Bear Farms is a working dairy first, and we'd rather wait until we can host you well than open the gate too early. Get on the Visit list and you'll hear from us before the public announcement.

Q. Where can I buy your products in person?

We hit forty-plus markets and festivals a year across Southern Illinois, Western Kentucky, and Southest Missouri. The truck holds Gilded Goat skincare, fresh-laid eggs, and whatever's blooming that week. Upcoming appearances live on the Markets page. If you have a boutique or spa and would like to carry our products please reach out to sales@boneandbearfarms.com.

Q. What's the difference between Bone + Bear Farms and The Gilded Goat?

Same farm, two doors. Bone + Bear Farms is the physical farm: the working dairy, the flock, the land, the family. The Gilded Goat is the skincare + home line we built around what the land + herd gives us. Bone + Bear Farms is the home of The Gilded Goat.

Q. Are your eggs available year-round?

Mostly. Hens slow down in the shortest, darkest weeks of winter, which is what hens have always done. We hold back stock when supply tightens. Best availability runs spring through fall. We're licensed under the Illinois Limited Egg Producer-Dealer program. Eggs are graded and washed daily. Cartons are dated and refrigerated on site.

Q. Why solar-powered?

Because we're far enough off the grid that running everything ourselves made more sense than trying not to. The array powers the milking parlor, the freeze-dryer, the freezers, the office, and the kitchen. We're Southern Illinois' first solar-powered goat dairy. We do not produce solar for the grid only our household + farm needs.

Q. Can I buy Gilded Goat products online?

Yes. The full catalog ships from the farm at thegildedgoat.com/shop. Ingredient lists, product demos, and the serum-pearl quiz all live there.
ON THE FARM

Who you'llfind here.

My grandma Della taught me to make soap when I was a little girl. She said take your time, measure honest, and don't rush what wants to set up slow. Nearly seven decades later, I'm still measuring with the same hands.
